Christmas is Coming !

Christmas is coming and Cork is an ideal place for host families and students to have some fun at Christmas time. Cork has a reputation as a fun town, and there are plenty of opportunities to go out and enjoy. Our students are about to explore the city with classmates or host families and see how the Irish enjoy this wonderful time of the year.

Christmas in Cork officially begins when the city centre comes aglow as the Christmas lights are switched on. The run-up to Christmas is the busiest trading period of the year for the city and the traditional festive lighting plays a key role in the Cork City Christmas experience and is much-loved by the tens of thousands of people, including our host families and exchange students, who enjoy the city’s festive offerings each year.

The Cork Christmas Market (Glow Cork) is one of the more popular Irish Christmas markets. Cork’s Grand Parade is where the main market stalls are based along with the big Ferris Wheel. There’s also festive features in Bishop Lucey Park. It will start on November 25th and will run up to January 8th, 2023. Aside from the Christmas lights, the market stalls and  the big Ferris Wheel you will also find live music and entertainment, Santa’s workshop and more.

Cork’s Bishop Lucey Park gets transformed into a Christmas wonderland when the Cork Christmas Markets arrive. Visitors to Glow in Bishop Lucey Park will enter via an ice tunnel, before strolling through streets resembling a Medieval village. You can also visit the Old Post Office. Padaí the Postman greets and shows kids where to post their letters to Santa.

It’s hard to beat Cork at Christmas. The markets shine with thousands of lights and plenty of Christmas events to take part in. At Ireland Experience we offer our students a total immersion in the culture, history and customs of Ireland, and especially of Cork, a wonderful city. Contact us and join this great family.
